Downtown New Haven, Inc. mission is unifying the downtown-related activities of civic organizations. As part of our work in the revitalization and marketing of Downtown New Haven, we have been able to accomplish several projects that reflect our richness of history and celebrate our picturesque downtown. We are a 501 ©3 organization for charitable and educational, project-based activities.
As you stroll through the downtown sidewalks, you will see new banners on the light poles celebrating our National Historic District. Most recently in our partnership with the New Haven Historic Preservation society, Downtown New Haven Inc. added bronze plaques on all of the commercial historic buildings sharing the original details of the business from the 1800's. This spring an artist was commissioned to paint a beautiful mural that celebrates the wildlife of the Missouri River on the city restroom facility near the boat ramp.
A current project that is well underway in Downtown New Haven is our playground project. Currently we have commitments of $61,900 in funds. With assistance from the city of New Haven, the goal is to receive a grant that will match the funds that have been committed to build a new playground.
To help us fund our projects, we had a Scarecrow Festival and Pumpkin Glow that was a family fun-filled event. We would encourage you to join us at the next event which is Christmas by Moonlight that will be held the first 2 Fridays in December from 5pm-8:30 pm. Be sure to look at our website:www.downtownnewhaveninc.org for a list of activities you will want to add to your calendar.
Most of all we want to sincerely thank our community, businesses, sponsors, and volunteers that support these events. Our downtown New Haven is unique and holds so much history. We want you to come and see what is new in Downtown New Haven!

What is Downtown New Haven ?
New Haven Missouri is located in Franklin County, about 55 miles from downtown St. Louis. Located along the Missouri River, this historic town began as a riverboat stop. New Haven was originally called "Miller's Landing." It was founded in 1836 by Philip Miller who supplied wood to the steamboats that would stop there as they traveled up and down the Missouri River. Philip Miller's home, built in 1856, is the oldest home in New Haven.
New Haven has an important link to the Lewis and Clark Expedition. John Colter, a member of the expedition and called the first "mountain man", settled in New Haven in 1810 on a farm after his many years of exploration. He is considered to be the first white man to see the Teton Mountain Range and to step foot into the region that is now Yellowstone National Park.
Having been built in the late 1800's, much of downtown New Haven is still intact and is on the National Register of Historic Places as the New Haven Commercial and Residential Historic Districts. Included in the districts is a restored 1940's Art Deco movie theatre, the Walt Theatre. The John Colter Memorial and the Central Hotel, a completely restored 1879 vintage hotel are just a few of the historical highlights to be seen.
The Levee Walk, located along the Missouri River, complete with antique lamp posts and picnic tables and benches, is a great place for a scenic stroll to spend a relaxing day or evening in New Haven.
